Seems to me, so many commentators here at Daily Kos find it very hard to avoid name calling.
Including kos.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at, to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off Daily Kos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on Daily Kos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
This is our current schedule of regular IAN diary writers:

Back when I started posting here, in 2006, I sometimes saw this:
www.dailykos.com/…
- Be a Jerk. The long version is Don’t Be a Jerk (DBAJ); the original version is Don’t Be a Dick (DBAD) and a common variant is Don’t Be an Ass[hole] (DBAA). We all know it when we see it. Or at least we like to think we do–that’s what these detailed Rules of the Road are intended to clarify.
That is from the rules of the road for Daily Kos.
So, in this, kos is saying that when anyone acts out in a bad way, we should all give that commentator a name (jerk, dick, asshole) and then maybe flag their comment?
I never flag anyone.
Or, if we feel the urge to post something bad, we should call ourselves those names?
What annoys me is that name calling, even silently to yourself, is embedded in that rule.
- Endorse or call for violence against anyone, public figure or private, not even in jest. DO NOT fantasize violence or harm against anyone. Claiming hyperbole, humor, poetic license/justice, or karma is no excuse. DO NOT dehumanize others with language that triggers fear and revulsion (e.g., “rats,” “cockroaches,” “maggots,” “vermin,” “germs,” “contagion,” “aliens,” “subhuman,” etc.) to legitimize harm or violence.
Okay.
But jerk, dick, and asshole are okay?
I do not see such a big difference.
Seems to me, if I truly do not approve of someone’s behavior, I could post this:
I truly do not approve of your behavior.
There, was that so hard?
I am an atheist, but I like the Bible.
Back in the days of Jesus, he noticed that sometimes violence and murder started with words.
So, he said:
biblehub.com/…
21Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. 23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. 25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. 26Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
So, Jesus said, do not call anyone a fool.
So many folks seem to feel that two wrongs make a right.
They feel that we, the nice folks, can freely call Trump a fool.
(To give just one example.)
The following people were born and raised in Austria, and supported the Nazi regime that killed 6 million Jews:
Adolf Hitler.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s father.
My brother’s father-in-law.
My brother married a young lady who was the daughter of a man who flew some of the very first jet aircraft.
In Hitler’s military.
That man and his wife, and my brother and his wife, are all deceased.
They are all buried close to each other, here in Wichita, Kansas.
I will not ever go piss on their graves.
My father had a personality similar to Richard Nixon: friendly, and conservative.
Most likely both my parents always voted for Republicans.
My parents are buried in that same part of that same cemetery, here in Wichita, Kansas.
The only family I now have who will answer my phone calls, and give me a ride when needed, is my late wife Tonia’s brother, and his wife, and their three small children.
Tonia’s brother is firmly against gay men and transgender folks.
He and his wife almost certainly vote for Republicans.
He and his wife will get my life insurance money when I die.
They are the ones in my will, and my power of attorney documents.
I will not call them names.
I will not.
Hugs, my IAN friends.
Hugs.
